What is SKIP?
Students for Kids International Projects 'SKIP' is a healthcare-student led UK-based
registered charity (1099804), which supports child welfare in communities throughout
the developing world.
We aim to:
- Develop and maintain sustainable, community-based projects aimed at
improving the health, education and welfare of vulnerable children. - Develop globally and culturally aware healthcare students who can advocate for
local and international health progress as future healthcare professionals.
SKIP community projects are facilitated by SKIP branches, in conjunction with local
partner organisations. There are currently 10 healthcare-student led branches in universities throughout the UK. These branches operate under the same charity number and are supported by a National Committee and the Executive Board. Our branches are:
- Barts - India
- Cardiff - Belarus
- Edinburgh - Moldova
- Glasgow - Malawi
- Hull-York Medical School (HYMS) - Tanzania
- Newcastle - Cambodia
- Oxford - Thailand
- Southampton - Madagascar
- St George's - Kenya
- University College London - Ghana
The interventions that we have initiated in each community project are context specific,
and are thus varied. Our interventions can broadly be classified into the following areas:
- Health promotion
- Water and sanitation
- Nutrition
- Education
- Facilitating the enablement of disabled persons.
